1960:

Prior to King Sihanouk's death, his son serves as prime minister. Prince Sihanouk becomes head of state.

Saloth Sar (Pol Pot) forms a new secret radical group, the Communist Party of Kampuchea (later tagged Khmer Rouge). The secretive faction began in the capital, Phnom Penh, until later fleeing to the countryside for more protection.
