...Socheata Poeuv:.................................................................................................

In May 2008, the Public Broadcasting Service will air Poeuv's film "New Year Baby." The film retraces the story of her family's escape from the genocide, a past that was kept secret from Poeuv for 25 years.

She is heading a new organization, Khmer Legacies, which will be an oral history video documentation project where children of survivors will interview their parents.

"I really saw that there was this possibility that these stories and this legacy would not be passed down to the next generation," Poeuv said. "Because these stories would not be passed down, it's almost as if it didn't happen. That seemed like such a shame to me."

Explore her Web site: newyearbaby.net and learn more about her desire to bridge the gap between the surviving generation and their children.

Note: The national PBS broadcast of the film is scheduled for May 27, 2008. Check local listings.
